Tourism Awareness and Career Promotion

These are projects and activities that give information about careers and job opportunities in hospitality, travel and tourism. The need for these initiatives is to meet the industry’s staffing needs and the aspirations of potential recruits. Tourism Awareness and Career Promotion initiatives include:
• Tourism Career Awareness Interactive DVD
• MTA Tourism Career Guides
• CHOICE Programme
• Tourism In-service Programme for Guidance and PSD Teachers

Tourism Career Awareness Interactive DVD

In February 2008, the MTA launched the Tourism Career Awareness DVD. This 20-minute educational music DVD, features Ira Losco who follows a tourist during his seven-day stay in Malta, identifying the various careers in the tourism industry. The aim is to highlight the myriad of careers available in the tourism industry, both directly and indirectly. This DVD has been distributed to all secondary schools in Malta and Gozo. This DVD will facilitate the role of teachers in relation to the dissemination of tourism related information with the final objective of increasing students’ interest to pursue a career in tourism. Teachers and educators who guide students in their career selection may order a copy by kindly calling IHRD on 2291 5122.

MTA Tourism Career Guides

The first & second volume of a series of Career Guides aimed at secondary school students have been published. The first Career Guide covers 23 different careers one can pursue in the hospitality and catering sectors whilst the second booklet covers 16 careers within the travel and tourism sectors.

The Tourism In-service Programme provides participants, mainly guidance and PSD teachers, with useful information about the dynamics of the industry – employment, education, marketing, management, issues and challenges.
