2. The quota of foreign tourists staying overnight in Malta?

 

The total number of tourist arrivals for the year 2002 was 1,133,814.  The guest nights amounted to 10, 599,206.  The average length of stay was 9.3 nights.

 

3. The quota of Maltese people spending their holidays in Malta?

 

In 2001 a survey was conducted with Maltese citizens with the objective to obtain an overview of the holiday behavior of Maltese citizens.  More than 1000 citizens (>15 years old) were interviewed on their holiday behavior. 

 

30.5% of the total 1113 respondents said that they spend one night stay and over in Gozo.  11.7% said that they spend one night stay and over in a Maltese hotel.  52.4% of the respondents said that they take a holiday, domestic and / or international.

 

4a) The quota of Maltese people undertaking at least one holiday trip per year? 

 

The estimated number of Maltese traveling abroad is 179,795.
