RULES & REGULATIONS

THE EVENT: The Malta Tourism Press Awards is an annual event organised by The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).

AIM: The aim of the Awards is to honour journalists / photographers from all over the world, whose work, published in the previous calendar year contribute to the enhancement of Tourism in the Maltese Islands.

ELIGIBILITY: All journalists and photographers of the foreign media who have written an article or included photographs in an article are eligible to participate in this contest.

FEES: All foreign journalists may participate free of charge.

SUBMISSIONS: Every participant shall submit only one work in one category she/he wants to participate in, clearly indicating the date and the medium of publication and the category in which the article/article online/TV programme/photograph is competing. These works must have been published or broadcasted in any foreign media during the calendar year (1st January 2011 - 31st December 2011).

Media includes:

Print media - Magazine article / Newspaper article/ Internet Online article or Broadcasting media - Television.

Submissions can be made by the individual journalist or photographer or by an MTA Director / representative overseas.

Submissions can be made on the appropriate Application Form that can be downloaded from the MTA web site: www.visitmalta.com

CATEGORIES: The Malta Tourism Authority Foreign Press Awards consists of five (5) categories, namely:

Print categories:

1) Article in Newspaper

2) Article in Magazine

Internet category:

3) Article online

Broadcasting category:

4) TV programme

Photography category:

5) Photography reportage

MICE category:

6) Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events. This particular category includes magazine articles, newspaper articles and online articles.

REQUIREMENTS:

Print/Internet categories: In the case of printed matter and online articles, those submitting works should include four copies in the original language.

Broadcast category: In the case of television journalism four DVD recordings of not less than 3 minutes need to be submitted. These recordings will not be returned.

Photography category: Photographs must be part of a reportage which appeared in the print media. Those submitting works should include four copies of the original article. These original copies will not be returned.

THE JURY: All submissions are adjudicated by a panel of four judges of whom at least one shall be experienced in press photography. The panel will consist of a Chairperson and three members, appointed by the organiser of the awards, and their decision is final and binding.

EVALUATION: The jury will evaluate a) originality b) ability to promote the Maltese Islands c) aesthetic sense.

CLASSIFICATION: Judges shall name only the winner of each category. If in any category the judging panel finds that submissions did not reach the desired standard they may decide not to award the prize.

PRIZES: The winner in each category will receive a trophy and a cash prize of €1,500. The winners and a person of their choice will be invited to Malta for the presentation ceremony (This will include air travel and accommodation in a 5* / 4* hotel for a long weekend).

PRESENTATION: The winners will be announced at a Presentation Ceremony which will be held in Malta prior to 30th April 2012.

CLOSING DATE: Submissions for the 3rd edition of the MTA Malta Tourism Press Awards will be received at the MTA Head Office Auberge d'Italie, Republic Street, Valletta by not later than 31st January 2012.
